Bhubaneswar, March 23: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Monday informed that XIMB campus has been sealed after 28 staff and students have tested positive for COVID-19. The BMC started collecting samples from all the people who are staying on the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) campus.
Students of XIMB campus test positive
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has sealed XIMB campus after 28 students tested positive for novel coronavirus.
“In view of the detection of a large number of COVID- 19 positive cases in Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, the entire XIMB campus is hereby sealed until further order,” the civic body said in a notice issued on Sunday.
“Travel history of all of the students is being tracked,” said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena. On being asked if the government is mulling imposing lockdown-like restrictions in the state, Jena asserted that a final decision will be taken after observing the situation.
XIMB campus sealed, diagnosed students in isolation
Notably, the classes on XIMB campus resumed after the Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha government allowed the reopening of education institutions last month.
“Those who have tested positive for the disease are kept in isolation in a hostel of the institute. They will be under observation,” the BMC official said. The institute has been asked to make necessary arrangements for food for the students who were diagnosed with the disease.
The notice stated that no one shall be allowed to move into or from the outside of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar except authorised persons from the BMC. All the inhabitants on the campus if any shall strictly remain inside. The supply of essentials and medical requirements if required will be ensured by BMC. All the staff and students have to undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests.
Two private educational institutes in Cuttack had reported 47 new COVID-19 cases last week.
Anganwadi workers on alert
After the XIMB campus has been sealed, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena informed that Covid-19 management committees will be activated again at village levels.
Besides, sarpanchs and ASHA and Anganwadi workers have been asked to keep watch on people entering villages.
The Odisha Chief Minister has called a review meeting to assess the coronavirus situation in the state.
The meeting will be attended by top officials, collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) across all districts.
