World Health Day 2021: Building a fairer, healthier world

Main significance of World Health Day is to spread awareness among the common people regarding the value of good health and a healthy lifestyle.

April 7, 2021: World Health Day is celebrated every year on April 7. This day is celebrated in order to spread awareness of health on a global basis, which is carried on under the sponsorship of the WHO meaning the World Health Organisation, along with other such related organizations. It is observed by all the member states of WHO.

Theme for World Health Day 2021

The theme for World Health Day 2021 is “Building a fairer, healthier world”. Stating that our world is unequal, WHO said that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how some people can have better access to health services and live healthier lives than others.

The first World Health Day celebrations

In the year 1948, the First World Health Assembly was held by WHO.The Assembly then decided to celebrate April 7 every year, as the World Health Day, with its effect from the year 1950.

This Day is held to signify the founding of WHO which organises local, regional, and international events on this day related to a particular theme which changes each year, as it is focused on a particular aspect of health.

Acknowledgements

The Day is acknowledged by many governments and organisations along with NGOs (non-governmental organisations), who also organise and arrange activities to spread awareness among public. The World Health Day is one of the eleven official global health campaigns that are marked by WHO.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter and stated, “#WorldHealthDay is a day to reaffirm our gratitude and appreciation to all those who work day and night to keep our planet healthy. It’s also a day to reiterate our commitment to supporting research and innovation in healthcare.

On #WorldHealthDay, let us keep the focus on fighting COVID-19 by taking all possible precautions including wearing a mask, regularly washing hands and following the other protocols.

At the same time, do take all possible steps to boost immunity and stay fit.

The Government of India is taking numerous measures including Ayushman Bharat and PM Janaushadhi Yojana to ensure people get access to top quality and affordable healthcare. India is also conducting the world’s largest vaccination drive to strengthen the fight against COVID-19.”

The main significance of the Day is to spread awareness among the common people regarding the value of good health and a healthy lifestyle.
