UGC-NET exam dates have been announced

The UGC-NET exam dates have been announced for the year 2021 by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the education minister on Tuesday. Read further for detailed information on the same.

February 2, 2021: The UGC-NET exam dates have been announced for the year 2021.The National Testing Agency will be conducting the next UGC-NET examination for the JRF that is the junior research fellowship and eligibility for the assistant professor in May 2021, as said by the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Tuesday.

According to the circular from the national testing agency, “The candidates who desire to appear in the test may see the details of the information bulletin for UGC-NET December 2020 cycle (May 2021), which will be available on the official website from February 2. The online application form will open on February 2. Candidates who wish to appear are required to apply online between February 2 and March 2. The application fee can be paid until March 3.”

UGC-NET exam

The national eligibility test (NET) is conducted on behalf of the university grants commission (UGC) in order to determine the eligibility of assistant professorship, junior research fellowship or both, for Indian colleges and universities. 

Until June 2018, the NET was conducted by CBSE in 84 subjects at 91 cities across the country. Thereafter from December 2018 onwards, the UGC-NET is being conducted by the national testing agency (NTA). 

UGC-NET is conducted twice every year. However, in 2020 due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, the June 2020 examination got delayed and was deferred to September 2020 until November 2020 to cover all the subjects. The December 2020 cycle had to be postponed and is now being conducted in March-April 2021. 

UGC-NET exam dates and details

This examination will be conducted in computer based test (CBT) mode and the candidates who want to appear for the examination and check more details regarding UGC-NET 2021 can visit the website, ugcnetnta.ac.in or nta.ac.in as well. The UGC-NET 2021 application window is open till March 2. Candidates need to visit the official website for the application. The UGC-NET 2021 are allowed to be paid upto the date of March 3. 

The time duration of the examination will be three hours. The paper 1 will carry 100 marks which will have 50 questions while paper 2 will carry 200 marks and it will have 100 MCQ format questions. 

The exam will be conducted in two shifts. Both paper 1 and 2 contain objective type questions and it is mandatory for candidates to attempt questions from both papers UGC-NET 2021 paper 1 will be conducted from 9am to 12 noon and the paper 2 will be held from 3pm to 6pm.

Awarding of junior research fellowship (JRF) and / or eligibility for assistant professorship depends on the aggregate performance of the appearing candidate in paper 1 and paper 2 of UGC-NET.

The candidates qualifying only for the assistant professorship are not to be considered for the awarding of JRF.

Candidates who qualify the eligibility test for assistant professorship are governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of assistant professors of the concerned universities, colleges, state governments as the case might be. 

The UGC-NET 2021 exam dates have been announced by the education minister, through his twitter handle where he stated that the national testing agency will conduct the UGC-NET 2021 examinations on the dates of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 17 of May 2021. 

Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted, “National testing agency (@DG_NET) will conduct the next UGC-NET examination for junior research fellowship and eligibility for assistant professor on 2,3,4,5,6,7,10,11,12,14 and 17 may 2021.” 

His tweet is also supported by the images of the circular from the national testing agency. Ramesh Pokhriyal also added to his tweet, “Read circular attached for more info! Good luck to all participants. “
