Sheikh Hyder has been arrested, constables suspended
It was indeed a prestige issue for the state police when the Odisha gangster escaped. Now that Sheikh Hyder has been arrested, the police can heave a sigh of relief as the opposition blamed the state government for laxity as some police officials were involved in the escape episode.
The police said earlier that all those who had conspired together with Sheikh Hyder and had helped him escape from Odisha while giving him shelter, would be all taken into task.
On April 11, the Odisha police had suspended six police constables for their dereliction of duty.
According to the Police, Yakub Khan had played a major role in the escape of Sheikh Hyder. Reportedly, he used to drug the food of a constable, who was on duty at Sheikh’s cabin in the hospital on April 10.
Notably, the Odisha police had taken Yakub Khan on a seven-day remand on April 14.
Saumendra Priyadarshi, who is the commissioner of police said, “The joint team of our commissionerate police and the Telangana police waylaid Hyder, who was on a bike. Our officers immediately identified him and rounded him on the road itself. He is being brought back to Odisha. We have learnt that Hyder escaped to Hyderabad in a car. He was constantly on the move and changing his locations. Our personnel worked on some credible intelligence input and immediately left for Hyderabad two days ago. We will interrogate Hyder once he reaches Odisha. Nobody would be spared in the conspiracy of helping him escape.”
