Bhubaneswar, April 14, 2021: Last year, Naveen Patnaik had agreed to implement the PM-KISAN Yojana in Odisha by deciding to share the very first list of beneficiaries under its own farm-intervention programme for the Centre’s cash-transfer scheme.
PM Kisan Yojana in Odisha
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has sought the personal intervention of Naveen Patnaik to ensure speedy compliance to procedural formalities as per PM-KISAN Yojana in Odisha guidelines for the benefit of the farmers.
Earlier, the chief minister of Odisha had even refused to implement the Ayushman Bharat central health insurance scheme. He had also been noncommittal on the PM’s farm intervention scheme too.
Naveen Patnaik had stated earlier that, “It is very sad that the Centre’s scheme does not have anything for these neglected and deprived sections (sharecroppers and landless farmers). I have taken up the issue with the Prime Minister and demanded steps for supporting the landless farmers, sharecroppers and agricultural workers and protecting their interests. “
Famers deprived of PM Kisan Yojana in Odisha
The Prime Minister released a net sum of Rs 19,000 crores as the 7th installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to 9.5 crores registered farmers nationwide. Odisha’s farmers have been deprived of the benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) as very few have been registered due to noncompliance of procedures, said Pradhan. Reportedly, a total of 40.5 lakh farmers are covered in Odisha, under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. However, it was found that only 24.7 lakh farmers received the payment of Rs. 2000 each under PM Kisan Yojana in Odisha from the release of the 7th installment, said.
Odisha lacking behind
About 39 percent of the eligible farmers in Odisha have not yet received their beneficiary payment from the Yojana due to certain problems in the data validation, as stated by the official sources.
Golak Mohaptra, who is the general secretary of the State BJP, blamed the Naveen State government. He blamed the government for depriving a huge number of farmers from receiving the proper benefits of the Central scheme, He stated that even though the total number of registered beneficiaries in the State had increased to over 40.50 lakhs, yet a large number of farmers have not received the benefits due to the improper and faulty data provided to the Central government. He added that data validation is most important and any discrepancy in the data included will automatically reject the entire application of the farmer.
While this scheme has benefited thousands of farmers, Odisha based farmers have still not got the full benefit out of the Yojana.
