Mamata Banerjee wants remaining phases clubbed
With four phases of the election still to go and Covid-19 cases on the rise, Bengal chief minister wants remaining phases clubbed into one day.
While elections are already over in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Puducherry and Kerala, Bengal is the only state with eight phases of election. However, the CM urged the Election Commission to conduct the remaining phases on a single day.
“Amid an ongoing pandemic, we firmly opposed @ECISVEEP’s decision to conduct WB polls in 8 phases. Now, in view of the huge surge in #COVID19 cases, I urge the ECI to consider holding the remaining phases in ONE go. This will protect the people from further exposure to #COVID19,” CM tweeted.

Mamata blames BJP for Covid-19 spike
Mamata Banerjee also blamed the BJP for the spike in Covid-19 cases in the poll-bound state.
She said that BJP is bringing “outsiders” during the election and spreading Covid-19. Mamata also said that she had urged the Modi government to vaccinate everyone in time and had this been done on time, the second outbreak of the pandemic wouldn’t have happened.
“BJP leaders have brought outsiders for campaigning and contributed to the rise in COVID cases. We had managed to get hold of the COVID situation, they made it complicated,” as new agency PTI was quoted as saying.
