Kangana Ranaut to play lead role of Sita, producer says she is the best choice
Producer Saloni Sharma said the National Award-winning actress is the apt choice to play the titular character.
“As a woman, I couldn’t be happier in welcoming Ms Kangana Ranaut on board our Vfx magnum opus, The Incarnation Sita. Kangana symbolizes the spirit and essence of the Indian woman – fearless, daunting and daring… It’s time we stepped in to celebrate equality in every respect,” the producer said in a statement.
Kangana unveils poster of new film
Kangana also unveiled a teaser poster of the upcoming period film. The actress wrote on Instagram, “Glad to be on board for the title role with this immensely talented team of artists. With the blessings of Sita Ram. Jai SiyaRam.”
Sources say, Kareena Kapoor Khan was approached to play the role of Sita. However, she charged a high amount which the makers couldn’t comply with.
Thailaivii actress fails to appear for court case
Meanwhile, an arrest warrant can be issued against Kangana Ranaut if she fails to be present during the next hearing in the defamation case filed by lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar.
Reportedly, the actress has not been present in the last eight hearings and in the previous hearing and Akhtar’s lawyer Jay Bhanushali sought a warrant against her.
On Tuesday, a metropolitan magistrate’s court granted exemption from appearance to Kangana and clearly stated that it would issue an arrest warrant if she remains absent the next time.
However, Kangana’s lawyer, Rizwan Siddiqui, told the court that Kangana has been showing ‘COVID-like’ symptoms due to which she has been advised to rest. He said that they will conduct a COVID test on Kangana and the reports will be submitted in the court if it turns out to be positive. “She has been travelling continuously to promote her film and meeting a lot of people. She is ill probably because of that. She has to undergo a Covid-19 test. I am seeking a short date,” Siddiqui told the court.
However, Akhtar’s lawyer, who was present along with the poet’s wife Shabana Azmi argued in the court that Kangana has been delaying the court’s proceedings and showing disrespect for the judicial proceedings by not taking the case seriously.
On November 2, 2020, Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana in Andheri Magistrate Court accusing her of tarnishing his image with her various interviews and posts in the media.
Kangana will next be seen in Dhaakad and Tejas, in which she will play the role of an Indian Air Force pilot.
