Sept 6, 2021: Prince Harry and Megan Markel send shockwaves after they requested to meet the Queen. This comes two years after they decided to part ways with the royal family.
Harry and Meghan send shockwaves, offers olive branch to the Queen
Harry and Meghan send shockwaves after they have expressed the interest to meet Queen Elizabeth II. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to introduce the Queen to her namesake great-granddaughter Lilibet if she agrees to meet them in the coming weeks. The Sussexes have offered to fly in to see the monarch for the Duchess’s first return trip to the UK since March 2020’s Megxit.
Harry and Meghan send shockwaves with their plan to visit London
Months after putting their royal relatives through headline-making campaigns slamming Prince Charles, claiming they endured racism and airing The Firm’s dirty laundry in a blockbuster sit down with Oprah Winfrey – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle apparently want to meet with Queen Elizabeth.
“Harry and Meghan have made this offer but a lot of people are shocked by the sheer nerve of it. They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it’s breathtaking given what they’ve put her through this year,” a source said.
“Her Majesty’s staff have not responded so far. In fact, there has also been discussion about Christmas — and whether an invitation should be sent to Harry and Meghan after they spurned one last year,” the sources was quoted by The Sun.
The Sussexes did not attend Christmas last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. And in 2019, they spent Christmas in Canada instead with the Royal Family.
The palace hasn’t responded to Harry and Meghan’s request, though the source added that the Queen “is still very fond of Harry, and would love to see Lilibet and her brother Archie. But courtiers are surprised by the move, especially from Meghan, after what has happened,” the sources said.
The monarchy is also bracing for the release of Harry’s memoir next year, with The Sun recently telling how The Queen’s aides were getting “lawyered up” against any new claims.
Harry returned to London for royal duties
In April, Harry returned to the UK alone for grandad Prince Philip’s funeral.
Biographer Omid Scobie said Prince Harry met The Queen privately twice during his stay. He last appeared in the UK in July to unveil a statue to mum Diana. Harry’s conciliatory calls are thought to include conversations with dad Charles and brother William.
