But, before his event, the US gold medallist at Paralympics gets touching letter from a stranger that made him feel like a winner.

Sam Grewe, US gold medallist at Paralympics gets touching letter before he won. A Games organiser handed him a note before he went out to give it his all on the track. The sender thanked him for providing “tremendous courage” in his family after his child had the same operation that transformed Grewe’s life.

The letter was written by Masaki Kando, the father of Haruki, a 13-year-old kid who, like the 23-year-old American athlete, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on his right knee at the age of ten and had “Rotation plasty” surgery.

“Today, my son is watching television,” Kando wrote. “We are all rooting for you,” said Masaki Kando.

Grewe earned sweet retribution last year after narrowly losing gold to India’s Mariyappan Thangavelu at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Thangavelu took silver with 1.86m after finishing first in 1.88m.

In the letter, Kando wrote, “Even though I knew the facts of the rotational plasty surgery, I was really apprehensive because there were misconceptions about its after function in Japan.” He went on to say that learning about Grewe’s procedure provided them the courage and assurance they needed.

Grewe was moved by the unexpected act of kindness and shared the message on Twitter. “This is what it’s all about, win or lose. This makes it all worth it,” while sharing it he wrote.

The athlete, as well as several others on social media, were moved by the letter. Many people congratulated Grewe, who is studying to become a doctor, and stated the achievements are an encouragement for small children facing similar challenges. Others praised the Japanese man’s considerate letter as well.

Meanwhile, the netizens reacted wholeheartedly to the episode. “ I was moved to tears❤️ (sic),” wrote one user. Another wrote, “This is so sweet! Sometimes we just need to believe that something extraordinary is possible. It’s so powerful when you see other people achieve their dreams.”
