August 18: On Tuesday, Netflix released the first set of images from season five of The Crown. The streaming giant also revealed the first look of Princess Diana from The Crown Season 5. Elizabeth Debicki will play the character in the new season.
First look of Princess Diana from The Crown Season 5 revealed
The Crown was originally set to finish after season five, but Netflix has revealed that the programme will be renewed for at least a sixth season. However, on Tuesday, Netflix revealed the first look of Princess Diana from The Crown Season 5 with actress Elizabeth Debicki essaying the role. Before The Crown, Elizabeth had been popular for her character in The Night Manager.

Not only the first look of Princess Diana from The Crown Season 5 is out, Netflix also revealed the actor who will be essaying the character of Prince Charles in the new season. He is none other than Dominic West of The Affair fame.
The Crown Season 5 went on floors in the UK last month. While the fans like Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, many weren’t impressed with West as Prince Charles.
Actors Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor, who played Princess Diana and Prince Charles in the previous season will be replaced by the duo.
New season to focus on Princess Diana’s troubled marriage
Following the previous season’s depiction of Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ troubled relationship, the new season will focus on their divorce and other areas of royal family life.
“Princess Diana’s spirit, words, and deeds live on in the hearts of so many people. It is a great honour and privilege for me to be a part of this masterful series, which has had me completely engrossed since the first episode,” Debicki earlier stated in a statement.

Expectations and execution of The Crown
“As we discussed the stories for Series 5, it became evident that in order to do credit to the story’s richness and complexity, we needed to go back to the original concept of six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not get us any closer to the present day; rather, it will allow us to cover the same time in greater depth,” stated creator Peter Morgan in a statement.
The show’s new Queen Elizabeth II, played by Imelda Staunton, was previously revealed in a first look.
Season 5 of The Crown is set to premiere in 2022. According to reports, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure from the royal family will not be included in The Crown. The show will only go up to the early 2000s, long before Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle became members of the royal family.
