Karan Johar unveils first look of Liger by Puri Jagannadh, Vijay Deverakonda roars in poster

Liger by Puri Jagannadh marks the first collaboration between Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannadh, who is best known for films such as Mahesh Babu-starrer Pokkiri and Amitabh Bachchan-fronted Bbudadh... Hoga Terra Baap.

Mumbai, January 19, 2021 (Agencies): Filmmaker Karan Johar on Monday released the first look and title of Liger by Puri Jagannadh, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday.

Johar, who is presenting the film via his Dharma Productions along with Apoorva Mehta, took to Twitter to share the first poster of the movie featuring Deverakonda as a boxer.

The film will release in five languages – Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

“Presenting LIGER, starring the ruler of big screens & hearts – Vijay Deverakonda & the fiery Ananya Panday. Directed by the exceptionally skilled Puri Jagannadh, we can’t wait to let the world witness this story in 5 languages – Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada & Malayalam. #Liger,” he tweeted.”

The project marks the first collaboration between Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannadh, who is best known for films such as Mahesh Babu-starrer Pokkiri and Amitabh Bachchan-fronted Bbudadh… Hoga Terra Baap.

In an interview with PTI last year, Vijay said he would dub his own lines for the Hindi version.

On Sunday, Johar had teased the title and first look reveal on Twitter.

“Stories are not bound by languages anymore, their richness is quantified by their entertainment quotient, the places they take you and the way they make you feel at the core,” he wrote.

“In the past years, we have presented stories that brought a never-seen-before cinematic spectacle to screens, appealing across regions to enthral one and all… We are adding another chapter in that journey, obliterating linguistic barriers to bring a new age of cinema. It’s time to put your game face on,” the filmmaker added.

Dharma Productions new project: Liger by Puri Jagannadh

Liger is Dharma Productions first pan-India project post the release of Baahubali franchise.

The banner has also presented The Ghazi Attack, which released in Telugu and Hindi, Madhuri Dixit-Nene starrer Marathi movie Bucket List and South superstar Rajinikanth-led 2.0.

What the leads said about the movie

Vijay Deverakonda shared his first look from the forthcoming film Liger: Saala Crossbreed and it is intense in every aspect.

 In the poster, the film’s lead actor Vijay Deverakonda can be seen sporting an aggressive look and he can be seen wearing boxing gloves on his hands.

A tiger and a lion in the backdrop of the poster can also be spotted.

Vijay, sharing the poster on Instagram, wrote: “Humbly announcing our arrival Pan India! Someone with my background shouldn’t have reached anywhere near here according to the conventions and set norms. But with sheer madness, passion, hardwork, here we are! Nationwide madness guaranteed.”

Vijay Deverakonda signed off his post saying, “For everyone like me, it is ok for all of us to dream big, Believe and make it happen.”

Retweeting Karan’s post Vijay wrote: “…What we could only dream, you’ve made a reality. To be able to tell stories to the country. You believed in our story and skill and backed us, we can’t wait to pay it back x100 with love and success!”

Ananya Panday announced her association with the project earlier by sharing a picture with her co-star Vijay Deverakonda and she wrote: “Happy, blessed and excited to be associated for a Pan-India film with our director Puri Jagannadh… Welcoming Mr Deverakonda to Bollywood.”
