Nutrition is of utmost importance for everyone. When supplemented by good physical exercise and maintenance of a healthy weight, eating well is an excellent way to help your body stay strong and healthy. For people with certain kinds of diseases or currently undergoing treatment, eating well is especially important for you. One’s food intake can affect one’s immune system, mood, and energy levels.

The following are some major advantages of consuming a healthy diet regularly

For Loss or Maintenance of Weight

Foods constituting fruit, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains to replace high-fat, high-calorie foods helps one lose and maintain a healthy weight. Consumption of food with calorie share within your required calorie range is important for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. The fiber in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables help fill you up faster and keep you full longer than foods that are loaded with sugar. The longer you feel full, the less likely you are to exceed your ideal calorie range.

To Control Blood Sugar

Foods loaded with sugar, such as white bread, fruit juice, soda, and ice cream, can cause a sudden increase in blood sugar in your body. Repeated over time this can lead to insulin resistance, which can go on to become type 2 diabetes. Complex carbohydrates, such as whole-grain bread, oatmeal, and brown rice, lead to a slow and gradual release of sugar into the bloodstream without overburdening your body with sugar, which helps regulate blood sugar.

To Decrease Risk of Heart Disease

Regular consumption of foods containing high-fat can increase your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which can further cause plaque to buildup in your arteries. Further, this can lead to heart attack, stroke, or other heart-related diseases. Eating a moderate amount of healthful fats such as those found in olive oil, avocados, fish, nuts, and seeds help protect your heart.

To Decrease the Risk of Cancer

Most fruits and vegetables are completely filled with antioxidants. Antioxidants help seek and neutralize potentially damaging cells called free radicals. Free radicals, due to the presence of an uneven amount of electrons, are highly unstable. To stabilize themselves they seek out and steal electrons from healthy cells, and thus cause damage to them. Antioxidants work by neutralizing free radicals by donating one of their electrons, turning the free radical into a stable molecule, thus preventing the harm.

To Support Brain Health

A diet full of all nutrients and essential non-nutrients is just as good for your brain as the rest of your body. Unhealthy foods are generally a major cause of a range of neurological problems. Deficiencies of certain nutrients pose a high risk of depression. Other nutrients, like potassium, play a pivotal role in brain cell functioning and maintenance. A proper mix of a variety of healthful diet constituting all nutrients in the right amounts keep your brain functioning properly, and it can promote good mental health as well.

To alleviate risk of cancer

Cancer is claimed to be the second leading cause of death worldwide. A cancerous mass of cells is developed due to unhealthy lifestyle and genetic factors that can further cause the cells in your body to divide exponentially, leading to abnormal cell functions and finally to cancer.

Researchers have found that consuming organic and unprocessed foods is the best way to keep cancer away.
