New e-filing portal launched: Taxpayers, here are the things you need to know

On June 7, the new e-filing website and the e-filing portal were launched. The Income Tax Department says it shall provide convenience and a “modern, seamless experience” to the taxpayers. The new e-filing website can be accessed at www.incometax.gov.in.

June 9, 2021: The Income Tax Department launched its new e-filing portal on June 7. The purpose for this is that it shall provide convenience and a “modern, seamless experience” to the taxpayers.

New e-filing portal for a seamless experience

A message was sent by the income tax department to the taxpayers stating that “Dear taxpayer, The Income Tax Department is happy to inform you of the launch of its new e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in on June 7, 2021.”

The tax department had tweeted that “We are as excited about the new portal as our users! We are at the final stages in the roll-out of the new portal and it will be available shortly. We appreciate your patience as we work towards making it operational soon.”

Other important notifications by the department

There is some more good news as well and that is along with the launch of the new e-filing portal, the income tax department will also be providing free of cost ITR preparation software for forms ITR-1, ITR-2, and 4.

The Ministry of Finance in an earlier statement said that “free of cost ITR preparation software available with interactive questions to help taxpayers for ITRs 1, 4 (online and offline) and ITR 2 (offline) to begin with facility for preparation of ITRs 3, 5, 6, 7 will be made available shortly.”

The benefits and features of the new e-filing website

There will be immediate processing of income Tax Returns (ITRs) that will issue quick refunds to taxpayers.

A single dashboard is created to display all interactions and uploads or pending actions for the further follow-up action by the taxpayer.

It is very easy as the taxpayers can proactively update their profile to provide details of income including salary, house property, business/profession which will be used in pre-filing their ITR.

There will be a detailed enablement of pre-filing with salary income, interest, dividend and capital gains will be available after TDS and SFT statements are uploaded and the due date is June 30.

A new call center for taxpayer assistance has been created and it will further provide prompt response to the taxpayer’s queries.

The detailed FAQs, User Manuals, Videos and Chat Box along with the live agent is being provided.

The other facilities given to the taxpayers are the functionalities for filing income tax forms, adding tax professionals, and submitting responses to notices in faceless scrutiny or appeals. All of these would be made available to the taxpayers so that it becomes easy for them to pay the tax.
