Remakes have become the new trend in the Bollywood industry and Coolie No. 1 is one of them. With several movies and songs from the 80s and 90s being remade with additional touches of modernity, the audience seem to have gotten fed up with the trend already because they have been ruining the essence of the contemporary eras.
Coolie No.1, the remade version of the iconic Govinda movie:
The Coolie No. 1 trailer was dropped on Saturday, November 28, and it has created a lot of buzz over the internet already. The video has, however, resulted in a ‘meme fest’ on Twitter with a section of the Twitterverse trolling it for being ‘cringeworthy’.
Remake of the 1995 hit Coolie No 1, David Dhawan’s 2020 movie of the same name is the director’s 45th directed movie.
Featuring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in the central roles, the roles were played by Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the original version.
The film, touted to be a comedy, marks Sara Ali Khan’s first collaboration with the young hero.
The Kedarnath actor reprises Karisma Kapoor’s role from the yesteryear movie. The biggie has a strong supporting cast that includes Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, and ace comedian Johnny Lever.
Rawal, who recently impressed movie buffs with his performance in the Sudha Kongara-directed Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, will be hoping to add another memorable film to his name.
Johnny Lever, on the other hand, has not had a major release in a while and it remains to be seen whether Coolie No. 1 helps him revive his career.
It is an important release for Varun as his last release Street Dancer 3D did not do as well as expected.
Sara, who was last seen in the commercially-unsuccessful Love Aaj Kal 2, too will be hoping to deliver a digital blockbuster with the movie.
The movie was originally slated to hit the screens in May but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The makers soon opted for a ‘direct to OTT’ release, skipping the theatrical route. It is slated to stream on Amazon Prime Video from December 25.
“Disappointing” reactions of netizens on the trailer drop:
The trailer did not at all delight the netizens rather agitated them. While some called it ‘Cringeworthy’, others could not get enough of Varun Dhawan’s ‘overacting’ skills. The trailer drop, however, did not ignite any excitement but called in for a meme fest among the netizens on Twitter.
