Tourist places in Kandhamal that you should visit

It is a small district in Odisha created on the January 1, 1994 with Phulbani as its headquarters. It is a tribal dominated place with majority of people belonging to the tribe Kondh(Kandha).

Kandhamal is a beautiful and serene place with 71 per cent forest area and has a soothing climatic condition. This area is best known for its natural beauty that includes various types of flora and fauna. It is also famous for its local turmeric known as ‘Kandhamal Haldi’ and has earned the Geographical indication (GI) tag from Intellectual property, India.

Here are a few tourist places in Kandhamal to visit.

Daringbadi

Also known as the Kashmir of Odisha, this area is, 3000 ft above sea level with extremely eye-catching natural beauty. It is a beautiful valley away from the hustle of cities having pine jungles, coffee gardens, waterfalls and valleys.

This place experiences snowfall and provides breathtaking views during winters.

One can also experience nature camp in this area or visit the butterfly park and emu bird sanctuary.

Best time to visit: During winters, from November to January.

How to reach: This is well-connected by air, rail and road. It is 290 km away from the Biju Patnaik airport, Bhubaneswar.

Jagannath Temple

If you are looking for spiritual peace and a way to connect with divinity you can visit the calm and peaceful Jagannath temple and spend a day with divine god and enjoy the warmth of the heavenly place.

Best time to visit: Open on all days of the week.

How to reach: This place is well connected by road air and train and is 1 km from the Phulbani bus stand.

Putudi

A place that would leave you spell bound with its beauty, where river Salunki falls from the height of 60ft forming a beautiful view.

This beautiful waterfall provides peace in a chaotic way, where the sound of the roaring river brings peace to the ears and gives a thrilling experience with dense forest surrounding it.

Best time to visit: Most preferred in the summer.

How to reach: Well connected by road, air and train and is 18km from Phulbani bus stand.

Barala Devi Mandir, another tourist place in Kandhamal

Yet another place with serene and divine environment is the Barala Devi temple. It is famous for goddess Barala Devi who is believed to be the savior of the world. This place is mainly visited during Dussehra.

The Pillasalunki Dam, ideal for picnics, is just 3km away from the temple.

Best time to visit: Can be visited throughout the year.

Belghar

This is another breathtaking place situated in the Kandhamal district of Odisha and is 2,555ft above the sea level with a very calm and soothing environment throughout the year.

This place is surrounded by forests and is known for its scenic beauty and wildlife especially elephants.

The Kutia Kandha tribe of the Belghar area are very friendly and always welcome tourists with immense love and hospitality.

The Belghar wooden bungalow is a must visit and tells a story of its own, the other places to visit in belghar is the elephant reserve and farming lands. Adventurous persons can also go for tracking or camping in the mountains of Belghar.
