CISCE postponed exams for classes X and XII amid the COVID surge

CISCE postponed exams that were scheduled in May. The CISCE Board was to hold ICSE or Class X exams from May 4 to June 7 and ISC or Class XII exam from April 8 to June 18, 2021. This year, nearly 3 lakh students registered to appear for CISCE exams including both ICSE and ISC exams. Meanwhile, students and parents are advised to keep a check on the official website of the board for further updates.

New Delhi, April 16, 2021: The Council For The Indian School Certificate Examinations, CISCE postponed exams for classes X and XII, and announced it on Friday. This decision was taken amid a nation-wide surge in cases of COVID-19.

The board will take a final decision on new dates of examination for classes X and XII by the first week of June 2021.

CISCE postponed exams

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations’ chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon said: “In light of the nationwide surge in coronavirus cases, the class 10 and 12 exams which were to be held from May 4 have been deferred.

“We will closely monitor the situation and review it in the first week of June to take a final decision on conduct of examination. While class 12 exams will be conducted at a later stage, class 10 students will get an option to either appear in offline exams later or get evaluated on basis of fair and unbiased criteria to be developed by board,” PTI quoted Arathoon as saying.

The CISCE Board was scheduled to hold ICSE or Class X exam from May 4 to June 7 and ISC or Class XII exam from April 8 to June 18, 2021.

Assessment of board exams in 2019

Last year, when the board exams were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students were evaluated on the basis of internal assessment.

The candidates were evaluated based on the best three subjects’ percentage marks for which board exams were held, and also on their internal assessment including marks obtained in practical exams, project work marks and marks obtained in mid-term exams.

Students will be required to score a minimum 35 per cent marks to clear the ICSE exam, while 40 per cent marks in each subject as well as aggregate for to pass ISC exam.
