Where is Chandaka Elephant Sanctuary?
A safe haven for elephants, this sanctuary on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, covers a huge area of 193.39 sq km. The Forest Department of Odisha has been working continuously in conservation of elephants since 1982.
Other animals in the sanctuary
While the sanctuary has as its chief or majority of inhabitants as elephants, other animals can also be spotted here such as wild pig, hyena, jackal, macaque, langur, leopard, barking deer, spotted deer, porcupine, wolf, and civets, among others.
One can also spot reptiles here which include rat snake, Bengal monitor, python, mud turtle and cobra, to mention a few.

This is the main entrance to the sanctuary set between Daspur and Bhola forest. Bharatpur reserve forest, Kochilaberena and Pitagadia are the three watchtowers built inside the jungle from where tourists can enjoy watching elephants in their natural habitat.
Morning and noon are considered the best to spot the big animals. In addition, there is also an ancient fort of King Chodaganga Dev constructed between 1078 and 1147 at Bualigarh.
