Banana Pudding Recipe

Banana pudding is a classic Southern dessert, well-loved for its creamy texture and comforting qualities, generally consisting of layers of sweet vanilla flavored custard, cookies and sliced fresh bananas placed in a dish and served, topped with whipped cream or meringue

Meals are regarded as staged presentations. Initiating with an appetizer, flowing through several different courses, and finally stopping at the dessert. When planning a full course meal, every course serves a purpose, and the different foods offered need to combine to make a harmonious whole.

Following the trail, desserts have always been an important part of the meal.

Its place of origin is the US. Though now it can be found around in any country.

Ingredients

We will need the following ingredients for our banana pudding-

  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar 
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 
  • 1/2 teaspoon plus a pinch salt 
  • 2 cups whole milk 
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 30 to 40 vanilla wafers 
  • 3 to 4 medium ripe bananas 

Directions

Follow the underwritten directions for preparing your banana pudding-

  • First, take the eggs and separate their yolks from their whites. Keep aside the whites. 
  • Next, add the remaining whole egg to the yolks.
  • Then take a saucepan. Mix together and heat 1/2 cup sugar, the flour, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • Next stir in the whole egg and 3 yolks.
  • To this then add in the milk. 
  • Cook this mixture uncovered.
  • Keep stirring the amalgamation often, until the mixture thickens. It would take about 10 minutes to do so. 
  • Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Take your mixture you have prepared and spread a thin layer of it in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. 
  • Then put a layer of vanilla wafers on top of the pudding. 
  • Now, cut thin slices of bananas crosswise, approximately about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Arrange these pieces as a layer of banana slices over the wafers.
  • Next, spread one-third of the remaining pudding over the bananas and continue the same layering pattern as before- wafers, bananas, and pudding.
  • To prepare the meringue, beat the reserved egg whites with a pinch of salt until they are stiff. 
  • Gradually beat in the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and continue beating until the whites will not slide out of the mixing bowl when it is tilted.
  • Next, spread the meringue over the pudding using a spatula.
  • You can try to make a few decorative peaks on top, and bake until the meringue is lightly browned around 5 minutes.

Banana pudding can be assembled and served in glass bowls, casserole dishes, or individual jars. For a quick and simple treat to share with a crowd, choose a serving dish that guests can spoon from into their own bowls. 

Stick with two layers of pudding, bananas, and cookie crumbles. If you want to serve individual portions, layer the pudding in small ramekins or Weck or Mason jars.

While banana pudding can be made in advance, keep in mind that the bananas will break down over time, releasing a watery “weep” that may spoil the treat for some. Kindly consume the pudding within 48 hours of preparing it.
