Be it origin, significance or meaning, here is everything you would need to know about April Fools' Day. The April Fools' Day is a public holiday in Odessa in Ukraine whereas it is not considered as one in any other countries around the world.

Why is the April Fools’ day observed?

The April Fools’ Day 2021 is observed as a result of numerous anecdotes. Several incidents that took place in history have suggested how the tradition of celebrating the April Fools’ Day began. Whether it is in the 14th century, or in the years of 1508, 1561, 1572, 1686, 1908, many incidents in history have suggested the reasons behind observing the occasion of April Fools’ Day.

Some of the most popular anecdotes were in the year 1582, when France shifted from using the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. This switch in calendars happened as France decided to begin their New Year with the Spring Equinox that takes place around April 1 every year.

Other reasons of observing the day

However, a number of people failed to recognise this change in the calendar and continued celebrating their New Year on April 1. Thereby becoming a subject of jokes for all and were consecutively termed as the “April Fools”.

Many among them were tagged with a paper fish with Poisson d’ avril (April fish) written on them, which referred to a person being gullible just like a fish.
