Apple Inc. has developed facemasks for its employees and now we will get to know how the masks look. The tech giant has designed these masks to distribute them to corporate and retail employees to curb the spread of Covid-19.
A popular YouTuber, Lewis Hilsenteger, unboxed the mask in a video, where we got a detailed look of the masks; two varieties of masks varying with the degree protection and accessibility that Apple is providing.
One mask is called Clear Mask, sourced from other companies and a new, in-house mask, has been named the Apple Face Mask. According to reports, the white masks are designed by the company’s Engineering and Industrial Design teams, involved in the development of the iPhone and the iPad.
Apple also had made a different face shield for medical workers and distributed millions of other masks across the health-care sector.
Structure and parts of the Apple facemasks
One is a white mask and the other, a transparent one.
In the video it seems like the packaging comes with five units.
The white mask seems to have three different parts with one covering the nose and the other that covers the chin. The main screen covers the nose and the mouth.
As Lewis said, Apple facemasks need to be disposed of after using it a certain number of times and the masks also need to be washed after every use.
The white masks also have adjustable strings for a better fitting.
The transparent masks provide more ease for people who prefer lip-reading to communicate. These masks are sealed from the top and bottom, and have plastic instead of fabric for the covering on the outlines.
Information Apple gave about the masks
The tech giant has said it has conducted proper and careful research and testing to find the conventional materials to strain the air properly while not disrupting the supply of medical personal protective equipment (PPEs).
The face mask (white) is made up of three layers to filter incoming and outgoing particles. It can be washed and reused as many as five times.
It further stated the Clear Mask, is the first FDA-cleared surgical mask that is completely transparent. The masks are also tested with the apple employees in three Apple stores and now it is exploring its own transparent mask alternatives.
Apple has worked with Washington-based Gallaudet University, which specialises in educating deaf and hard-of-hearing students who will be helping to pick up which clear mask to use.
So far, the company has been providing cloth masks to the employees and surgical masks to those customers visiting the Apple retail stores.
