While Ollywood actress Varsha Priyadarshini came out to the media accusing her husband, Anubhav Mohanty, of domestic violence on Saturday, the latter had already filed a divorce petition in the Patiala House Court of New Delhi on July 7.
Anubhav Mohanty is the BJD MP from Kendrapara district of Odisha. He made a press release of his divorce petition, defending the accusations made against him, mentioned in the petition that their marriage was never consummated since Varsha kept refusing physical relationship and denied him his conjugal rights.

He mentioned that she never fulfilled her duties as a wife and a daughter-in-law.
Although they were married to each other since 2016, they have stayed together only for 18 months, said Anubhav in his petition. And these 18 months were full of cruelty, tyranny, misery, harassment and suffering for him and his family.
He added how Varsha kept refusing for physical relationship by asking for more time, every time. Anubhav said though he respected her decision initially, he did try to woo her later, but in vain.
In his divorce petition, Anubhav accused Varsha of subjecting him and his family to humiliation and disregard on several occasions. He added that she hardly stayed at her in-law’s place and would leave no chance of instigating an argument by creating fake or unreal scenarios.
He accused her of never trying to get along with her in-laws and looking for reasons to stay away from them.
He mentioned in his petition how Varsha had been accusing him of infidelity, falsely, and had even threatened to file false criminal charges against him and his family. He said he and his family had sincerely tried their best for a mutual separation since they were concerned about each other’s social image and dignity.
“Only after failing in this I had no other choice left rather than filing for a divorce petition in the Hon’ble Court of Law. I filed my divorce petition in July,” he said.
On August 7, Varsha had filed a motion seeking maintenance of Rs 50,000 per month, compensation of Rs 13 crore, and medical expenses of Rs 2 crore.
In her petition, she had accused Anubhav of being a womaniser, abuser and an alcoholic.
She said Anubhav and his family left her alone in Odisha and left for Delhi right before the lockdown was imposed.
‘Baseless allegations’, says Anubhav Mohanty
“In these troubling times, it pains me to see the malicious, fictitious, frivolous, and baseless accusations that have been leveled against me, “ Anubhav stated in his petition.
Towards the end, he asked to respect the personal space and privacy and dignity of his, his wife, her family, and his family and not resort to rumour- mongering.
He also mentioned before the press that in 2016, she started accusing him of entertaining extra marital affairs with his co-actresses and would abuse him on such grounds. Varsha would always abuse him in front of her family members.
The couple had been living separately since May 2019.
