On Engineer’s Day, the Union education minister presents the first AICTE Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Awards 2020 to 12 faculty members of AICTE-approved institutes

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal presented the first AICTE Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Awards 2020 to 12 faculty members of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)-approved institutes, on Engineer’s Day.

The felicitation of the faculty was done through a virtual ceremony.  

Pokhriyal also launched SPICES (Scheme for Promoting Interests, Creativity and Ethics among Students) contributing to healthy co-curricular activities among the students for their all-round development, during the virtual event.

The online event also had the presence of the chairman of the AICTE, professor Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, vice-chairman of AICTE, professor M.P. Poonia, and member secretary of AICTE, professor Rajiv Kumar who congratulated the awardees.

Tribute to Sir M. Visvesvaraya      

The minister said Sir M. Visvesvaraya was a pioneer of engineering in India. Visvesvaraya was one of the most eminent engineers and statesmen of India, whose contribution to the advancement of the country is unforgettable.

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his indispensable contribution to nation-building.

Objective behind Visvesvaraya Best Teachers Awards

The minister said the AICTE Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Awards 2020 has been introduced for the first time to identify extraordinary teachers and recognise their excellence, best practice and innovativeness in the field of higher technical education at national level for degree and diploma institutions.

Among the various initiatives put forward by the AICTE to elevate the overall higher technical education in the country, this was one to recognise the best talent, the minister said.

He added that the proposals were sought from all the AICTE-approved institutions for the same.

The criteria of the evaluation were predefined with a focus on research, 360-degree feedback, and contribution to student development along with the assertion of the societal problems. 

The teachers are given Rs 25,000, along with a badge and certificate of excellence.

The AICTE Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Awards 2020 were given to 12 teachers of various prestigious institutions.
